Dr. Rajan Saini is the first Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology specialist in the cities of Burnaby and New Westminster. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Saini completed a four-year Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology Hospital Residency Program at University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital. During his residency, he was also fortunate to have gained a tremendous amount of expertise through visiting rotations to several prominent institutions including MD Anderson Cancer Centre, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, Lexington, Texas A&M College of Dentistry Dallas, The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, UCSF at San Francisco, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry London Ontario, Long Island Jewish Medical Centre New York, among others.
Dr. Saini completed his Dental degree and Masters in Oral Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology from India. He then moved to Malaysia where he practiced and taught Oral Medicine and Pathology for eight years in University settings and was presented with the prestigious award for the outstanding contributions in academics and research. He also completed his Ph.D. from the National University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Saini has extensive research experience, and after completing his Ph.D., he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at BC Cancer Research Centre. He also worked as a Post-Doctoral fellow at UBC Dentistry where he significantly contributed to the establishment of Oral Health Research Centre at National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Besides North America, he has presented and has research collaborations with prominent institutes in countries of South and South-East Asia, Middle East and Europe. He has won many research grants and awards during his career as a Clinician Scientist.
Dr. Saini practices full scope of Oral Medicine services including the treatment of patients with oral lesions-red/white patches/chronic ulcers/lumps and bumps, temporomandibular joint disorders, bruxism, orofacial pain including masticatory muscle myalgia/myofascial pain, neuropathic pains/atypical odontalgias, neuralgias affecting orofacial region, oral manifestations of systemic diseases, hyposalivation/dry mouth or hypersalivation/drooling, burning mouth syndrome, dysplasia/ malignancy diagnosis and follow-up using advanced adjuvant techniques, medicolegal consults related to oral dysfunction associated with motor vehicle accident or work related injury.
Outside of private practice, Dr. Saini is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Saini is an avid swimmer and loves to be in nature. In his spare time, he also enjoys being involved in local community events and biking around seawall with his wife and two kids.
